GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Towson University track & field team is set for the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Outdoor Championship, taking place from May 14-15 at North Carolina A&T.

Last year, Northeastern secured the championship title after accumulating 128.5 points. Elon followed in second place with 111 points. Hampton rounded out the podium in third place with 105 points.

The Tigers earned a fifth-place finish with 78 points. Cristal Cuervo secured first place in the 400m, capturing gold with a time of 53.33 - setting a new school record and becoming the first woman in Towson history to break the 54-second barrier in the event. Later that month, Cuervo surpassed her own mark, running a 53.24 at the 2024 NCAA East Preliminaries to reset the program record. Maya Tucker also delivered a strong showing, finishing third in the 100m with a time of 11.57. In total, Towson collected one gold, three silver, and three bronze medals at the meet.

Regular Season Recap
Towson track & field capped the 2025 outdoor season with two new school records and twenty all-time top program marks.

The Tigers opened their spring campaign at the Black & Gold Invitational, hosted by the University of Central Florida in Orlando from Mar. 21 to Mar. 22. The team turned in eight all-time performances at the meet, highlighted by the 4x400m relay team of Cristal Cuervo, Baara Stewart, Jasmine Scott and Spencer Settle, who ran a 3:42.62 - marking the second-fastest time in program history.

Towson then hosted two consecutive home meets: the Towson Invitational and the Towson Twilight Senior Meet. Across both competitions, the Tigers secured nine all-time performances and ten first-place finishes. On Apr. 12, Towson traveled to Harrisonburg, Virginia, for the JMU Invitational. The team brought home four gold medals with performances from Leeann Redlo, Cristal Cuervo, Maya Tucker and Baara Stewart.

From Apr. 18 to Apr. 19, the Tigers split their squad to compete at the Morgan State Legacy Meet in Baltimore, Maryland and the Aggie Classic in Greensboro, North Carolina. In a thrilling finish to the weekend, Maya Tucker, Jasmine Scott, Cristal Cuervo and Spencer Settle captured first place in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:37.52 - shattering the previous school record by nearly five seconds.

Towson continued its run at the prestigious Penn Relays on Apr. 25 and Apr. 26 in Philadelphia. In the College Women's Sprint Medley Relay Championship of America, the team of Maya Tucker, Jasmine Scott, Spencer Settle and Baara Stewart posted a time of 3:58.06 to win their heat and set a new program record.

The Tigers concluded their regular season at the Kehoe Twilight Invitational, hosted by the University of Maryland. Nancy Hudson, Maya Tucker, Stella Anani and Cristal Cuervo took first in the 4x100m relay with a time of 44.99 - the second-fastest in school history and only the second time a Towson relay team has broken the 45-second mark.

Regular Season Accolades
In April, the CAA recognized Piper Jons and Leeann Redlo as the 2025 Indoor Track & Field Major Award winners.

Leeann Redlo was named the CAA Field Athlete of the Year. Redlo appears on four top 10 all-time lists in program history (long jump, 60m hurdles, 100m hurdles and pentathlon) and holds the school record in the high jump with a mark of 1.80m. In February, she earned CAA Field Athlete of the Week honors after posting a then-personal best 1.76m in the high jump, a mark that ranked 50th nationally and second in the CAA at the time. At the 2025 CAA Indoor Championships, Redlo recorded a personal-best 3567 in the pentathlon, finishing second overall and earning CAA All-Honors. She was also recognized as the Most Outstanding Field Performer of the Meet. Redlo, now a junior, was previously named the 2023 CAA Rookie Athlete of the Year.

Piper Jons was named CAA Track Athlete of the Year. Throughout the 2024-25 indoor season, Jons set four program records in the 200m, 400m, 600m and 4x400m relay while also securing spots on Towson's top 10 all-time lists in the 60m and 500m. At the 2025 CAA Indoor Championships, Jons shattered both CAA and Towson records in the 200m (23.20) and 400m (52.31), earning recognition as the Most Outstanding Track Performer of the Meet.

Athletes ranked in the top 48 in individual events and the top 24 declared relay teams in the East Region will qualify for the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field East Preliminaries. The first round will be contested at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville.
