JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Three members of the Towson University track & field team have qualified for the NCAA East Preliminary Round, announced by the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Track and Field and Cross-Country Committee Thursday afternoon. The East Preliminary Round will take place at the University of North Florida from May 28-31.
For the fifth consecutive year, the Towson University track & field team will attend the NCAA East Preliminary Round, where
Maya Tucker,
Cristal Cuervo and
Leeann Redlo will represent the Black & Gold.
Athletes ranked in the top 48 in individual events and the top 24 declared relay teams in the east or west region qualify for the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Preliminaries. Athletes who place in the top 12 in their respective events during the first round will move on to the final round at Hayward Field, hosted at the University of Oregon from June 11-14.
Cristal Cuervo - 400m
Cristal Cuervo makes her third consecutive appearance on the NCAA stage and her second straight appearance on the NCAA East Preliminary qualifying list in the 400m. Last year, she ranked 45th in the East Region after setting a then-school record of 53.33 at the 2024 Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Outdoor Championships, becoming the first female runner in program history to break 54 seconds in the event.
Cuervo made her NCAA East Preliminaries debut in 2023 in the 200m, where she ranked 33rd in the East Region. This year, the senior is ranked 40th in the 400m following a record-breaking performance at the 2025 CAA Outdoor Championships, where she clocked a 52.85 to shatter the program's previous record and secure gold for the Tigers. Cuervo holds Towson records in the 200m, 300m, 400m, 4x100m, 4x400m and Distance Medley Relay.
Leeann Redlo – High Jump
Leeann Redlo makes her NCAA debut after ranking 29th in the East Region in the high jump with a mark of 1.76m, achieved earlier this season at the Maryland Kehoe Twilight Meet. At last week's CAA Outdoor Championships, she earned a silver medal in the heptathlon with 4884 points – the second-highest total in program history. At the ECAC Indoor Championships in January, Redlo set the school record in the high jump after clearing 1.80m on her first attempt. The junior additionally appears on all-time rankings for the Tigers in the 60m hurdles, 100m hurdles, long jump and pentathlon.
Maya Tucker – 100m
Maya Tucker caps her senior year with her second consecutive NCAA appearance in the 100m. Last season, she qualified for both the 100m and 200m, ranking 37th and 42nd in the East Region, respectively. Earlier this season at the Aggie Invitational, Tucker posted a time of 11.41 in the 100m, placing her 44th in the region.Â
At last week's CAA Outdoor Championships, Tucker earned gold in the 100m, silver medals in both the 4x100m and 4x400m relays, and bronze in the 200m - contributing significantly to Towson's fourth-place team finish. She currently holds school records in the 100m, 4x100m and 4x400m relays.Â
