REGINA, Saskatchewan – Two Towson University alumni will be continuing their professional careers as the Canadian Football League (CFL) kicks off next week.
Robert Javier '24 is set to go with the Saskatchewan Roughriders while
Tibo Debaillie '21 has returned to the BC Lions. Each is competing in training camp with those teams as the CFL season begins on June 5.
Javier signed as a free agent with Saskatchewan late last season but did not compete in a game. The former All-CAA cornerback defended 26 passes in his final two years with Towson, including six interceptions.
Debaillie is set to compete in his fourth season with the Lions. In his four years in the CFL, the Belgium native has played 53 games with 43 tackles and five sacks.
Towson has a long history of players competing in the USA's northern neighbor. Two Tigers, Andrew Garnett and Tyrell Pigrome, competed in the CFL in 2023 while Samuel Obiang was in the CFL combine in 2024.
Two other Tigers,
Carter Runyon and
Nchabanu Fortaboh, are looking to make their mark in the National Football League. Runyon signed a free agent deal with the Las Vegas Raiders in April while Fortaboh has had camp invites to the Baltimore Ravens and New England Patriots.
Saskatchewan plays its first game in the CFL opener on Thursday, June 5 at 9 p.m. ET, hosting Winnipeg. BC debuts at home on Saturday, June 7 at 10 p.m. ET against Edmonton.
