Towson Track & Field Named USTFCCCA All-Academic Team, Three Tigers Earn Individual Honors

NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Towson University track & field team have earned U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Honors. Along with the team, Cristal Cuervo, Piper Jons and Maya Tucker were named All-Academic Athletes, announced by the association Monday afternoon.

To be recognized as an NCAA Division I All-Academic Team, the team's cumulative grade point average (GPA) must be 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale. The Tigers have accumulated a 3.211 GPA, supported by thirteen athletes with a 3.5 or higher.

Academic criteria for individuals to be named NCAA Division I All-Academic Athletes includes maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher on a 4.0 scale as well as completing two semesters at the certifying institution. Athletic criteria for the indoor season include having finished ranked in the top 96 in any championship individual event or in the top 48 in any championship relay event. For the outdoor season, the athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

Cristal Cuervo earns her third straight USTFCCCA All-Academic honor. A business administration major, Cuervo competed in 14 meets during the 2024-25 season, setting three new program records. The senior also made her third consecutive appearance on the NCAA stage after qualifying for the East Preliminaries in the 400m.

Piper Jons receives her second consecutive USTFCCCA All-Academic distinction, earning her first at Elon last year. While earning her masters in reading education, Jons competed in 8 indoor meets during the 2024-25 season, setting four new school records. At the 2025 CAA Indoor Championships, she set the CAA and Towson records in the 200m and 400m. Jons was recognized as the 2025 CAA Track Athlete of the Year.

Maya Tucker receives her second consecutive USTFCCCA All-Academic honor. Majoring in exercise science, the senior competed in 15 meets during the 2024-25 season and set three new program records. Tucker made her second consecutive appearance at the NCAA East Preliminaries, competing in the 100m.
