Cuervo to Compete in XXXV Central American Athletics Championship

MANAGUA, Nicaragua – Towson University track & field alum Cristal Cuervo is set to represent her home country of Panama at the XXXV Central American Athletics Championships, held on August 2 and 3 in Nicaragua. Cuervo will compete in the 200m, 400m, 4x100m relay and 4x400m relay.

Cuervo is no stranger to international competition. In April, she represented Panama at the LIV South American Championships in Mar del Plata, Argentina, where she competed in the 200m finals. The previous year, she competed at the XXXIV Central American Games, earning two gold medals. Cuervo dominated her 400m heat with a time of 53.64 to take first overall and followed it up with another gold in the 200m, clocking 23.72.

Cuervo currently holds seven Towson program records across the 200m, 400m, 300m, 4x100m relay, 4x400m relay (indoor and outdoor) and the distance medley relay. Cuervo is a three-time NCAA First Round Qualifier in outdoor competition and holds two national records for her home country of Panama. She has represented Panama on the international stage at the Pan-American Games, Central American Championships, Bolivarian Games and the Central American & Caribbean Games.
