EMMITSBURG, Md. - The Towson University cross country team completed its first meet of the season at the Mount 5K Duals Friday morning. The Tigers placed fourth out of eight teams after accumulating a total of 104 points.
"Overall, we had a good opener today", said coach
Evan Freeman. "There are still some things we want to continue to work on and improve upon in the coming months, but this was a strong starting point. Rebekka ran a great race for us upfront. We have a young team, so I'm excited to see where we go from here."
Sophomore
Rebekka Hillier was Towson's top performer, placing fifth out of 91 runners after clocking 18:50.29 in the race. Towson's top five runners finished within 1:19 of each other, averaging 19:40 as a group.
Less than a minute later, freshman
Camille Swirsding finished with a time of 19:39.53 to place 21st in her collegiate debut.
Mari Collick followed closely behind Swirsding, placing 24th after running 19:47.78.
Rounding out Towson's scoring five were freshmen
Whitney Duhon (19:55.14, 30th) and
Skylar Pizzulli (20:10.10, 34th).
Baara Stewart (20:25.16) and
Anna Amato (20:28.20) also turned in strong efforts for the Black & Gold.
