Cuervo Secures Two Golds, One Bronze at XXXV Central American Games

TOWSON, Md. – Towson University track & field alum Cristal Cuervo earned two gold medals and one bronze at the XXXV Central America Games this past weekend in Managua, Nicaragua. Representing her home country of Panama, Cuervo medaled in the 200m, 400m and 4x100m relay events. She was also slated to compete in the 4x400m relay, but the event was canceled due to inclement weather.

Cuervo opened competition on Saturday with a first-place finish in the 400m, clocking a 53.58. She carried the same momentum into the 4x100m relay, helping Panama secure another gold medal with a time of 47.27.

On Sunday, Cuervo ran a 23.62 in the 200m finals to claim third place for Panama.

Cuervo holds seven Towson program records across the 200m, 400m, 300m, 4x100m relay, 4x400m relay (indoor and outdoor) and the distance medley relay. Cuervo is a three-time NCAA First Round Qualifier in outdoor competition and holds two national records for her home country of Panama. She has represented Panama on the international stage at the Pan-American Games, Central American Championships, Bolivarian Games and the Central American & Caribbean Games.

This fall, Cuervo will join the Fairleigh Dickinson University track & field program as a graduate assistant coach while pursuing her master's degree in business.
