NEWARK, Del. - The Towson University cross country team secured a first place finish at the University of Delaware Invitational on Friday morning. The top five scorers for the Tigers all placed in the top 10 individually.

Evan Freeman. "This win is a representation of all the young women over the years that have believed in our vision and put in the work to get the best out of themselves. We raced as a team, fought hard as a team and believed as a team today. I loved our teamwork and selflessness throughout the race. Today is a great step forward for the Tigers."
The Tigers totaled 23 points, edging out regionally ranked Delaware by nine. Towson's top five runners crossed within 24 seconds of each other, averaging 19:54 as a group.
For the second straight meet, sophomore
Rebekka Hillier led the Black & Gold. Hillier placed second overall out of 83 runners, clocking a time of 19:38.80.
Baara Stewart followed closely behind, securing a third-place finish with a time of 19:53.80.
Freshmen
Anna Amato and
Camille Swirsding were the next two finishers for the Tigers, taking fifth and sixth place, respectively. Amato finished with a time of 19:55.90, followed by Swirsding's 19:58.70.
Rounding out Towson's scoring five was sophomore
Mari Collick, who placed seventh overall after posting a time of 20:02.90.
Skylar Pizzulli (20:22.70, 12th) and
Layla James (20:53.00, 15th) additionally turned in strong performances for Towson.
