TOWSON, Md. ? The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association has ranked the Tigers' women's cross country team 14th in the Mid-Atlantic Region. It's Towson's first appearance in the region's top 15 this year.
Towson is ranked just behind Pittsburgh and ahead of Maryland. The Terrapins are 15th in this week's polling.
The Tigers are off to a strong start for their 2007 season, having captured the Baltimore Metro and Towson Invitational team titles. Two weeks ago they finished fourth at the Delaware Invitational where the Blue Hens edged the Tigers 105-110 for third. The Tigers ran the meet without two of their top runners ? graduate student Britta Nelson and sophomore Michelle Donadio.
Coach Roger Erricker's harriers will seek their third team title of the season when they travel to Salisbury, Md., this Saturday for the Don Cathcart Invitational at the 6,000-meter Winter Park Place course. Towson's last trip to Salisbury was a successful one. The Tigers captured the Tidewater Fall Classic hosted by the Sea Gulls. Nelson, senior Kay Borleis and Donadio were the top finishers for the Tigers.
Freshman Katie Ogden has crossed the finish line first for the Tigers in each meet this season.
