NORFOLK, Va. - When the final horn sounded at the end of the second overtime period at ODU Soccer Stadium on Saturday night, the Tiger men's soccer team couldn't help but feel a sense of déjà vu after earning a 0-0 tie against the defending Colonial Athletic Association champion Monarchs.
The two teams also battled to a scoreless tie in last year's CAA Championship Game before the Monarchs edged Towson in a penalty kick shootout to earn the CAA title and the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Freshman goalkeeper John Steele made two saves for the Tigers, who were outshot by an 18-11 margin. However, the biggest save of the game came with 2:25 remaining in regulation when freshman Nicolas Bermudez Roa stopped a shot by Steffan Rabben to preserve the draw and send the game into overtime.
Freshman goalkeeper Michael Roura posted four saves against the Tigers in the draw, including three saves in the two overtime periods.
The Tigers, who extended their unbeaten streak to three straight games with the tie on Saturday, will host Northeastern University on Wednesday afternoon at 1 p.m.
