PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Junior
forward Olakunle Banjo and freshman
goalkeeper Felix Petermann of the
Towson University men's soccer team were honored Thursday by the Colonial
Athletic Association at the league's annual men's soccer banquet. Banjo was
selected as a First Team All-CAA performer while Petermann was named to the
All-Rookie team.
"It
is a great reward for outstanding seasons to have Olakunle and
Felix named to All-CAA teams," Towson head coach Frank Olszewski said. "It was a well deserved
honor for "Kay" as a First Team representative. He is one of the top
forwards in the league and the region for that matter. So, for him to be
recognized with this prestigious honor is great to see. Felix proved
game in and game out that he was one of the best goalkeepers in the CAA. He is
a wonderfully talented competitor with a bright future. The
coaching staff and entire team are proud of this recognition for these
hard working student-athletes."
Banjo is the eighth player in school history to be named to
the All-CAA first team, joining current Towson assistant coach Billy Chiles, among others. Pat Healey and Sebastian Haensel each made the All-CAA first team two times.
In 2012, Banjo continued his offensive dominance with four goals and
four assists for 12 points. In eight conference games, Banjo had
two goals and three assists. Banjo scored the game winning goal against Mount
St. Mary's in Towson's 2-1 double overtime victory, adding an assist against
The Mount. He recorded his second three-point game of the season in a 3-2 win
at Delaware, tallying a goal and an assist. He also led the team with 44 shots
and was fifth in the CAA with 3.14 shots per game. Banjo took two or more shots
in every game.
Petermann is just the second goalkeeper in school history to
be named to the All-CAA Rookie Team (John Steele, 2008). A native of Berlin, Germany, Petermann led the
CAA with 71 saves this season, an average of 4.44 per game. Petermann had a
streak of 11 straight games with four or more saves, highlighted by his first
career shutout in a 1-0 victory over Georgia State when he stopped five shots.
He set a career-high with eight saves against Northeastern on Oct. 24.
