TOWSON, Md. - Playing in its final home game of the regular season, the Towson men's soccer team played the Northeastern Huskies to a 2-2 draw Wednesday on Senior Day at the Tiger Soccer Complex. The Huskies (11-1-3, 6-0-2 CAA) entered the game leading the Colonial Athletic Association and were ranked No. 26 in the nation by the NSCAA.

"Our guys battled today," Towson head coach Frank Olszewski said. "Our fight and our second effort were there tonight. That shows you what is in our kids' hearts. How can you not be proud of that?"

Olakunle Banjo and Daniel Grundei each scored for Towson (4-9-2, 2-5-2), who despite being outshot 18-9 received some timely offense and got a stellar performance from freshman Felix Petermann. The first-year goalkeeper set a season-high with eight saves and now has 68 this season.

The Tigers took the lead when Grundei headed in a corner kick served by senior Matteo Vertucci past Northeastern goalie Oliver Blum for his second goal of the season to give the Tigers a 2-1 lead. It marked the first time in more than 639 minutes that Northeastern had trailed in a match, dating back to the 13th minute against VCU on Sept. 29.

The two goals Towson scored against the Huskies was only the third time this season Northeastern allowed two or more goals in a game.

Both teams had ample opportunities to add to the scoreboard but were unable to do so. Don Anding, who entered Wednesday as the CAA's leading scorer with 26 points, hit the crossbar in the 77th minute, and Dante Marini had a chance to end the game in the second overtime but his shot was turned away by Tiger defender Michael Greene.

In the final minute of regulation, Banjo attempted a header with 33 seconds remaining that sailed over the net.

Prior to the game, the Tigers' six seniors were honored for their contributions to the program. Josh Danza, Albert Collins, Matteo Vertucci, Trevar Ondiek, Anthony Okodua and Phil Martinelli were celebrated in a pre-game ceremony.

Towson will play its final regular season contest Saturday at UNC Wilmington for a match at 7 p.m.
