TOWSON, Md. - Looking to improve its chances for a Colonial Athletic Association Tournament berth, the Towson men's soccer team will play its final game of the regular season Sunday at UNC Wilmington (6-9-1, 3-5 CAA) for a match at 5 p.m.
The Tigers (4-9-2, 2-5-2 CAA) are coming off of a 2-2 tie at home against Northeastern Wednesday. The Huskies entered that game with an unbeaten conference record.
However, the Tigers received timely offense and took a 2-1 lead against the Huskies when sophomore defender Daniel Grundei headed in a corner kick served by Enrico Skrypzak past Northeastern goalkeeper Oliver Blum. Grundei's goal in the 57th minute marked the first time the Huskies had trailed in a game in more than 639 minutes, dating back to the 13th minute against VCU on Sept. 29.
The two goals Towson scored against the Huskies was only the third time this season Northeastern allowed two or more goals in a game. Olakunle Banjo also scored for the Tigers and now has a team-high four goals this season.
In the draw against Northeastern, Tiger freshman goalkeeper Felix Petermann made a season-high eight saves and now leads the conference with 68 for the season.
With a win against the Seahawks Sunday, the Tigers would remain alive in the CAA playoff picture. The regular season concludes next week for the rest of the conference.
