Tigers Earn 1-1 Tie Against CAA-Leading Northeastern

TOWSON, Md. ? Freshman goalkeeper John Steele made seven saves, including five in the first half, as the Tigers (6-3-2, 2-1-2) extended their unbeaten streak to three straight games by earning a 1-1 double overtime tie against Northeastern University (5-2-5, 3-0-2) in a Colonial Athletic Association game at the Towson Center Soccer Complex on Wednesday afternoon.

It was the Tigers' second straight tie after battling defending CAA champion Old Dominion to a scoreless draw on Saturday evening. Meanwhile, the Huskies upped their unbeaten streak to eight straight games.

After a scoreless first half, the Huskies took a 1-0 lead in the 76th minute when freshman forward Mike Kennedy tallied his fourth goal of the season by converting a pass from junior midfielder Alexander Volk.

Less than two minutes later, the Tigers earned a penalty kick when the Huskies were called for a foul in the goal area. Senior midfielder Matt Beckman converted the penalty kick attempt for his first goal of the season, tying the game at 1-1.

From there, it was a defensive struggle as both teams managed just three shots in the two overtime periods.

Junior goalkeeper Scott Partridge made five saves for the Huskies, who have gone 4-0-4 in their last eight games.

The Huskies and the Tigers each attempted 17 shots in the game while the Tigers held a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks.

The Tigers will begin a quick two-game road trip on Saturday night when they travel to UNC Wilmington for a 7 p.m. game against the Seahawks. Meanwhile, the Huskies will host George Mason on Saturday night at Parsons Field.  H
