UNC Wilmington Defeats Tigers, 1-0

WILMINGTON, N.C. - Looking to extend their unbeaten streak, the Tigers opened a quick two-game road trip in tough weather conditions against UNC Wilmington at the UNCW Soccer Stadium on Saturday night. The Seahawks used a goal late in the first half to post a 1-0 victory over Towson, snapping the Tigers' three-game unbeaten streak.

Sophomore Nassim Berhouni scored the game's only goal with just over a minute left in the first half to give the Seahawks the victory, moving UNC Wilmington into a tie for first place in the CAA standings with Northeastern.

Berhouni collected a loose ball on the right side and scored on a shot from the top of the penalty area for his fourth goal of the season at the 43:57 mark. In the 59th minute, the Seahawks nearly upped the advantage to 2-0 when freshman Shawn Guderian took a pass on the right side, but his attempt sailed over the crossbar.

Trailing by 1-0 in the 82nd minute, the Tigers nearly tied the game with a pair of chances on the play. Senior Matt Beckman served a ball into the penalty area to freshman Liam Maloney, who took a shot that hit the crossbar and right goal post. Sophomore Marco Mangione collected the rebound and attempted a header, but his attempt sailed wide.

UNC Wilmington goalkeeper Brock Duckworth made two saves to earn his third shutout of the season while freshman goalkeeper John Steele made one save in a losing effort for the Tigers.

The Seahawks outshot the Tigers by a 12-6 margin, including a 7-1 edge in the first half.

The Tigers will return to action on Wednesday night when they travel to the University of Delaware to face the Blue Hens at 7 p.m.
