Tigers Edge George Mason in OT, 2-1

TOWSON, Md. ? Junior forward Tommy Appel-Schumacher scored the game-winning goal with 31 seconds remaining in overtime as the Tigers (6-3-0, 2-1-0) won for the fifth time in their last six games with a 2-1 victory over George Mason University (5-4-1, 1-2-0) in a Colonial Athletic Association game at the Towson Center Soccer Complex on Wednesday afternoon.

Appel-Schumacher scored his fourth goal of the season in the final minute of the first overtime period when he converted passes from junior midfielder Xavier Otero and freshman midfielder Javier Bermudez Roa.

Of Appel-Schumacher's four goals this year, three of them have been game-winning markers.

The Patriots took a quick 1-0 lead just 1:07 into the game when senior defender Tyler Orzak scored the first goal of his college career off a free kick from senior defender Hugh Fike.

With 11:08 remaining in the first half, the Tigers tied the game at 1-1 when redshirt freshman forward Liam Maloney scored his team-leading fourth goal of the season, a 20-yard blast off an assist from senior midfielder Cesar Cisneros.

Freshman goalkeeper John Steele led the Tiger defense with a season-high 11 saves as George Mason outshot Towson by a 24-12 margin.

Junior goalkeeper Sean Kelley made three saves in a losing effort for the Patriots, who have lost two straight games following a four-game win streak.

The Tigers will travel to Old Dominion on Saturday night for a 7 p.m. game against the Monarchs. It will be a rematch of last year's CAA Championship Game, which ended in a tie before Old Dominion edged the Tigers in a penalty kick shootout.

Meanwhile, the Patriots will host James Madison on Saturday night at 7 p.m.
