RICHMOND, Va. – Junior Meredith Budner of the Tiger women's swimming and diving team has been named as the recipient of the Colonial Athletic Association Women's Swimmer of the Week award for the week ending November 22, it has been announced by CAA officials.
It is the second time this season and the fourth time in her career that Budner has been honored as the CAA Swimmer of the Week.
“I am very pleased with how well Meredith swam this early in the season,” Coach Pat Mead said. “If she can stay focused and healthy, she will have a great remainder of her season and will return to the NCAA Championship.”
Budner led the Tigers to a fourth place finish at the University of Maryland's Terrapin Cup last weekend, earning three NCAA 'B' cut times while winning a pair of events.
She won the 500-yard freestyle with an NCAA 'B' cut time of 4:47.98, which ranks 16th in NCAA Division I according to CollegeSwimming.com. In addition, she finished first in the 1650-yard freestyle by posting an NCAA 'B' cut time of 16:36.01, which ranks 18th in the country.
Budner also placed fourth in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:50.38. In the preliminaries, Budner set the school record with a time of 1:48.09, earning her NCAA 'B' cut of the weekend. The time she set in the preliminaries ranks 13th in the country.
She also placed fourth in the 400-yard individual medley with a season-best time of 4:22.21, which ranks 44th in the country.
Off to an 8-1 dual meet start, the Tigers will be idle until January 9 when they travel to the University of Delaware for a Colonial Athletic Association dual meet against the Blue Hens.
