GREENVILLE, N.C. - The Tigers fell at East Carolina by a 68-45 score on day two of the Lady Pirate Invitational. Kandace Davis moved into fifth place on the Tigers' (2-4) all-time block list in the game.
"We continue to struggle with things and we need to keep working to find a way to make it better," said Coach Joe Mathews.
East Carolina jumped out to an early 12-2 lead behind six points from Kelly Smith. The two teams traded baskets with a Haliena Snowden jumper at 11:48 making it a 16-9 game. A three-pointer by Shanae Baker-Brice at 9:17 made it a 21-14 game. East Carolina ended the half on a 19-4 run to take a 40-18 lead into the locker room.
Towson opened the second half on a 14-6 run to make it a 46-31 game with 12:53 to play. Highlighting that run for the Tigers was six straight points from Davis and four points from Baker-Brice. Four straight points from the Lady Pirates' Crystal Wilson made the home team's lead 50-31 with 10:50 to play. The Lady Pirates ended the game on an 18-14 run to claim the 68-45 victory.
Baker-Brice led the Tigers with 17 points, six rebounds, one assist and one block. It marked the first time this season, Baker-Brice has been held below 20 points in a game. Davis finished with six points, seven rebounds, two assists and two blocks. The blocks gave Davis 80 for her career and moved her past Eileen Jensen and into fifth place by herself. Dovile Miliauskaite had six points, five rebounds and four steals while Katrina Wheeler contributed seven boards.
Kim Gay led East Carolina with 12 points and six rebounds while Smith finished with 11 points. Ashley Clark had nine points, seven rebounds, seven assists and five steals.
The Tigers return to action on Thursday, December 3 when they host Loyola College at 7 p.m.
