Tigers Sweep CAA Pod Meet to Remain Perfect

NEWARK, Del. - Led by two individual victories by junior Meredith Budner, the Tigers completed their efforts at the Colonial Athletic Association Pod Meet at the University of Delaware with a strong performance on Saturday to earn a sweep over the host Blue Hens, George Mason and UNC Wilmington.

The Tigers, who improved to a perfect 7-0 in dual meets this year, defeated Delaware by a 232.50-120.50 margin. They also posted a 243-110 win over George Mason while edging UNC Wilmington by a 187.50-165.50 margin.

"This was a very tough meet for us," Towson Coach Pat Mead said. "The level of competition is much higher in the CAA this year. We have some work to do if we want to be competitive."

Budner took first place in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:28.31 before winning the 500-yard freestyle by completing the event in 4:55.19.

Junior Brooke Golden earned a victory in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:53.13 while sophomore Cari Czarnecki won the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:05.30. Czarnecki also had a second place effort in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:05.74.

Freshman Lee Ingram had a solid performance for the Tigers, placing second in the 100-yard backstroke (58.71) and fourth in the 200-yard backstroke (2:08.66).

Senior Christina Bowman added a second place performance in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 59.03 seconds while junior Erica Hall had a third place effort in the 100-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 53.08 seconds.

Junior Megen Donovan took second place in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:21.49 while sophomore Caroline Baker finished in second place in the one-meter diving event with 227.95 points.

The Tigers will look to continue their winning ways next Saturday when they travel to the University of Maryland for a double dual meet against the Terrapins and UMBC.
