Greyhounds Nip Tigers, 1-0

BALTIMORE, Md. - Despite four saves from sophomore goalkeeper John Steele, the Tigers (3-3-0) suffered their second straight loss with a 1-0 setback against local rival Loyola University (3-2-1) at the Greyhounds' Diane Geppi-Aikens Field on Saturday afternoon.

The Tigers, who were playing their fourth game in a 10-day span, outshot the Greyhounds by a 13-9 margin. However, junior goalkeeper Kyle Wittman matched a season high with seven saves.

"It was similar to Wednesday in that we were chasing the game and we were trying to get back into it," Coach Frank Olszewski said. "Playing four games in ten days takes a toll on any team and it did with us. But, it should prepare us for our conference play next week."

Junior forward Phil Bannister scored the game's only goal in the 30th minute when he scored his first goal of the season off a pass from senior forward Jamie Darvill. From there, the Greyhound defense tightened up and held the Tigers off the scoreboard.

The Tigers will open their Colonial Athletic Association schedule on Saturday afternoon when they host William & Mary at 1 p.m. Meanwhile, the Greyhounds will travel to UMBC on Tuesday night.
