Budner Leads Tigers Past George Mason, 214-86

TOWSON, Md. - Led by three individual victories from senior Meredith Budner, the Tigers opened their home schedule by posting their 10th win of the season, a 214-86 Colonial Athletic Association victory over George Mason University at Burdick Pool on Saturday afternoon.

The Tigers, who improved to 10-1 in dual meet competition and a 6-0 CAA record this season, took first place in 12 of the 16 events en route to their second victory over the Patriots this season.

"This was a great win today against a very good team," Coach Pat Mead said. "We did exactly what I have been looking for all year long in today's meet. We supported each other and performed confidently and aggressively, which culminated in some season best times for a large number of people on the team."

Budner earned a victory in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 9:58.21 while juniors Brooke Golden and Kayla Zeller followed in second and third places, respectively. Budner also posted a first place time in the 200-yard freestyle by completing the event in a time of 1:50.20 before winning the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:05.49, which barely missed the school record.

Golden earned a second place finish in the 200-yard freestyle (1:52.13) before winning the 100-yard butterfly in 57.93 seconds. Meanwhile, Zeller was third in the 200-yard freestyle with a mark of 1:53.09 and won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:02.08.

Freshman Lee Ingram led the Tigers' sweep in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 58.79 seconds while Amanda Skroupa (59.34) and Maggie Macedonia (1:00.60) followed in second and third places, respectively.

Sophomore Cari Czarnecki was second in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:04.61 before earning a win in the 200-yard breaststroke by touching the wall in 2:23.24. Senior Ivy Wimberley earned a third place effort in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:06.44.

Senior Jordan Crosby finished first in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:04.43 as the Tigers took the top three places in the event. Sophomore Marianna Kogut (2:06.13) and senior Christina Bowman (2:07.34) followed Crosby en route to the sweep.

Senior Kathryne Chalikis helped the Tigers to another sweep in the 50-yard freestyle, placing first with a time of 24.06 seconds. Sophomore Tana King barely missed out on first place with a time of 24.10 seconds while senior Robin Glaser was third with a mark of 24.31 seconds.

Glaser placed first in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 52.80 seconds while King and Chalikis followed in second and third places, respectively.

Skroupa earned first place in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:08.26 while junior Erica Hall followed in third place, touching the wall in 2 minutes, 9 seconds.

Freshman Gabi Lepore scored 236.78 points to earn third place in the three-meter diving event while sophomore Caroline Baker, the reigning CAA Diver of the Week, placed second in the one-meter event with a score of 285.00 points. Sophomore Lauren Ray earned a third place effort on the one-meter board with a score of 249.07 points.

The Tigers also took first and third places in the 400-yard freestyle relay after earning second and third place finishes in the 200-yard medley relay.

The Tigers will continue their three-meet homestand next Saturday when they host Loyola and James Madison at Burdick Pool at 1 p.m.
