Tigers Earn 205-93 Win Over William & Mary

TOWSON, Md. - Junior Caroline Baker took first place in both diving events and set the school record in the three-meter diving event to lead Towson University (1-0) to its first dual meet win of the season, a 205-93 Colonial Athletic Association victory over the College of William & Mary (0-1) in the Tigers' home opener at Burdick Pool on Saturday afternoon.

Baker, who set the three-meter diving record last year, eclipsed her own mark by scoring 337.13 points. She also finished first in the one-meter event by tallying 290.25 points.

"This was a solid start to the year for us and it was a complete team victory," Towson Coach Pat Mead said. "Many people stepped up and did their part today."

After the Tigers took a 13-4 lead by finishing first and third in the 200-yard medley relay, senior Kayla Zeller placed first in the 1000-yard freestyle by turning in a time of 10:08.76. Meanwhile, sophomore Adrienne Phillips followed in second place with a time of 10:23.59.

Senior Meredith Budner finished first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:49.83 as the Tigers took three of the top four spots in the event.

Sophomore Lee Ingram earned a second place finish in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 59.80 seconds while Amanda Skroupa finished fourth in the event with a time of 1:01.16.

Led by junior Cari Czarnecki, the Tigers took the top three places in the 100-yard breaststroke. Czarnecki won the event with a time of 1:05.00 while junior Maegan McLaughlin (1:06.74) and senior Maggie Macedonia (1:07.65) followed in second and third places, respectively.

The Tigers earned four of the top five places in the 200-yard butterfly as senior Brooke Golden won the event with a time of 2:03.58. Meanwhile, junior Marianna Kogut turned in a time of 2:06.79 for a second place effort.

Senior Erica Hall and freshman Melanie Rowland finished first and second in the 100-yard freestyle before the Tigers took three of the top five places in the 200-yard backstroke, including a second place finish by Phillips.

McLaughlin led the Tigers with a first place finish in the 200-yard backstroke by completing the event in 2:23.13 while senior Megen Donovan followed in second place with a time of 2:23.54.

Led by a first place effort from Golden (4:56.41), the Tigers claimed the top three places in the 500-yard freestyle as Zeller earned second place with a time of 4:57.39 followed by freshman Kaitlin Burke (5:01.42).

Czarnecki won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 57.45 seconds while Kogut earned fourth place with a time of 58.99 seconds.

Budner finished first in the 200-yard individual medley by turning in a time of 2:06.00 while Macedonia earned third place with a time of 2:11.93.

The Tigers ended the meet by finishing first in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:30.26.

The Tigers will return home on October 23 for a double dual meet against Georgetown and East Carolina at 1 p.m.
