Tigers Fall to Old Dominion, 4-1

NORFOLK, Va. – Despite a goal by sophomore forward Zach Hoffer, the Tigers (7-4-1, 1-4-1) were unable to snap their three-game losing streak as Old Dominion University (7-3-2, 3-1-2) earned a 4-1 Colonial Athletic Association victory over Towson at the ODU Soccer Complex on Saturday night.

It was the Monarchs' second straight win.

The Monarchs scored three straight goals in a 24-minute span to take a 3-0 lead with 32:35 remaining in the second half. With 11:21 left in the first period, freshman midfielder Alex Vaughan scored an unassisted goal to give Old Dominion a 1-0 lead.

Just over 11 minutes later, the Monarchs upped the advantage to 2-0 when sophomore midfielder Jordan LeBlanc converted a pass from freshman forward Tim Hopkinson for his third goal of the season.

Freshman Gideon Asante gave Old Dominion a 3-0 lead in the 58th minute when he scored his fourth goal of the season off an assist from Hopkinson.

Hoffer answered with 20:05 remaining when he scored his third goal of the season, an unassisted marker past senior goalkeeper Evan Newton.

However, the Monarchs regained their three-goal edge in the 77th minute when freshman midfielder Placide Buduri scored the first goal of his college career, an unassisted marker past junior goalkeeper John Steele.

Newton made three saves for the Monarchs, who outshot Towson by a 12-9 margin. Meanwhile, Steele made one save in a losing effort.

The Tigers will return home on Wednesday afternoon when they host Northeastern at the Towson Center Soccer Complex at 3 p.m.
