TOWSON, Md. – Senior midfielder Stefan Froedert scored the game-winning goal in the 78th minute as the Tigers (8-4-1, 2-4-1) snapped a three-game losing streak with a 2-1 Colonial Athletic Association victory over Northeastern University (4-6-3, 2-2-3) at the Towson Center Soccer Complex on Wednesday afternoon.
It was the Tigers' first win since a 2-0 victory over Hofstra University on October 6.
The Huskies took a 1-0 lead in the 22nd minute when freshman midfielder Laurence Braude scored his third goal of the season past junior goalkeeper John Steele.
Trailing by the one-goal margin to start the second half, the Tigers scored twice in an 18-minute span to take a one-goal advantage. Junior forward Liam Maloney tied the game at 1-1 in the 60th minute when he drilled a free kick from 24 yards out past sophomore goalkeeper Oliver Blum. It was Maloney's fourth goal of the season.
Then, Froedert gave the Tigers a one-goal cushion with 12:13 remaining in regulation when he took a crossing pass from sophomore midfielder Phil Martinelli and scored the first goal of his college career.
From there, the Tigers held the Huskies to just three shots in the final 12 minutes to earn the victory.
Blum made three saves for the Huskies, who outshot Towson by a 14-11 margin and held an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Making his second straight start, Steele posted three saves for the Tigers, who won at home for the first time since September 19 against Loyola (Md.).
