TOWSON, Md. - On Senior Night it was senior Kristie Blumer providing the game-winning goal for the Tigers in overtime against Delaware. Blumer had a pair of goals for the Tigers (8-8, 2-4 CAA) in the 3-2 win.
"I'm excited for Kristie and the rest of the seniors to close out their home career with a big win," said Coach Michelle Webber. "I'm really pleased with the way Kristie stepped up and led us tonight."
For the Tigers it was their third straight win and second straight overtime victory. All three wins have come by a 3-2 score.
Delaware jumped out to the early lead in the game as Michelle Drummonds found the back of the net in the third minute. Drummonds beat the defender and blasted it past the goalie.
Towson got the equalizer as Blumer scored the first of her goals at 11:37. She took a long shot from the top of the circle on the near side. The two teams headed into the half tied at 1-1. The Tigers held a 6-1 advantage in shots in the first 35 minutes of action and a 4-2 lead in penalty corners.
The Tigers extended their lead at 39:06 as Janine Kovach scored her second goal of the year. Kovach scored off an assist from Katie DeFilippo.
The Blue Hens score the game-tying goal in the 61st minute as Drummonds scored her second goal of the game. That goal would prove to be the final tally in regulation.
The Tigers and Blue Hens headed to overtime. Towson nearly scored just 23 seconds into the extra session but Missy Woodie was able to record a defensive save for the Blue Hens.
Blumer struck for the game-winner 2:18 into the extra session. Her goal came off a pass from Tabi Hatch.
Whitney Clugston earned the win in goal for the Tigers as she was not forced to make a save. Brooke Smith recorded a defensive save for the Tigers. Noelle Diana made six saves in the loss for the Blue Hens.
The Tigers finished the game with a 17-6 advantage in shots while Delaware held a 9-8 edge in penalty corners.
Towson returns to action when it travels to CAA leading Drexel on Friday, October 29 for a 7 p.m. contest.
