TOWSON, Md. – Junior Cari Czarnecki won three individual events and was a member of a winning relay team as the Tigers (3-0) earned a pair of victories over Georgetown University and East Carolina University in a double dual meet at Burdick Pool on Saturday afternoon.
With the victories, the Tigers extended their dual meet win streak to eight straight meets, dating back to last season. Since the beginning of last season, the Tigers have a 16-1 record in dual meets.
“Today was a great swimming and diving effort for our women,” Towson Coach Pat Mead said. “The divers performed exceptionally well against a very solid diving program and our women stepped up again against a very solid ECU team.
“Cari did an exceptional job today winning back-to-back events and then, winning the 200-yard breaststroke later in the meet,” Coach Mead added. “We still have holes to fill in certain events and we need to get everyone healthy as we get ready for our Pod Meet in two weeks.”
After swimming the second leg in the Tigers' victorious 200-yard medley relay, which posted a time of 1:48.54, Czarnecki won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:04.90. She also finished first in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:04.33 before posting a victory in the 200-yard breaststroke by completing the event in 2 minutes, 22.04 seconds.
Senior Meredith Budner finished first in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:01.54. In addition, she also won the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:09.51. Meanwhile, senior Brooke Golden won the 200-yard freestyle by finishing the event in 1:51.87 and finished first in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:59.79.
Freshman Kaitlin Burke took first place in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 58.68 seconds.
Junior Caroline Baker won both diving events for the Tigers, scoring 294.45 points in the one-meter event before posting a score of 301.80 points in the three-meter event.
The Tigers will continue their season on November 6 and 7 when they travel to UNC Wilmington for a Colonial Athletic Association Pod Meet against the host Seahawks, George Mason and Delaware.
