Tigers Edged by Delaware, 1-0

NEWARK, Del. - Senior midfielder Jon Scheer scored the game's only goal in the 56th minute as the University of Delaware (4-8-3, 3-4-2) improved its chances at a Colonial Athletic Association Tournament berth with a 1-0 victory over the Tigers (8-5-2, 2-5-2) at Delaware Mini-Stadium on Wednesday night.

It was the Blue Hens' third-ever victory over the Tigers in 31 all-time meetings. Towson leads the all-time series by a 25-3-3 margin.

Scheer, who scored his fourth goal of the season, took a crossing pass from junior midfielder Kyle Ellis and scored on a shot to the right post.

From there, the Blue Hen defense limited Towson to just four shots on goal in the second half as Delaware outshot the Tigers by a 21-13 margin.

Sophomore goalkeeper Brandon Paul made six saves for the Blue Hens, who posted their third shutout in the last four games.

Freshman goalkeeper Angelo Viteritti made eight saves for the Tigers, who had their two-game unbeaten streak snapped.

The Tigers will play their final home game of the season on Sunday afternoon when they host Virginia Commonwealth at 1 p.m. at the Towson Center Soccer Complex. The Tigers will honor their seven seniors prior to the kick-off.
