Golden Leads Tigers at Double Dual Meet

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Senior Brooke Golden won a pair of individual events as the Tigers competed in a double dual meet against UMBC and Maryland at the Eppley Recreation Center on Saturday afternoon.

Now 7-1 on the season, the Tigers defeated the Retrievers by a 214.50-85.50 margin, but dropped a 203-97 decision against the host Terrapins.

Golden earned first place in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:13.33 while freshman Kaitlin Burke took second place with a time of 10:16.91.

Senior Meredith Budner placed second in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:49.79 while senior Megen Donovan had a third place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke, completing the event in 1 minute, 6.66 seconds. 

Junior Cari Czarnecki won the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:02.61 while Burke placed third in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.28 seconds.

Junior Caroline Baker placed second in the one-meter diving event by scoring 239.50 points followed by junior Jeanne Ball, who placed third with a score of 230.80 points.

Budner took third place in the 100-yard freestyle by touching the wall in 51.91 seconds , which was followed by a third place effort from Maggie Macedonia in the 200-yard backstroke (2:06.88).

Donovan finished second in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:22.42 before Golden earned her second win of the meet with a victory in the 500-yard freestyle (4:55.91). Senior Kayla Zeller followed in second place in the event with a time of 4:56.77.

After Czarnecki earned third place in the 100-yard butterfly, she finished in third place in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:07.58.

Junior Lauren Ray was third in the three-meter diving event by scoring 229.30 points.

The Tigers also placed second in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:31.87.

The Tigers will return to the University of Maryland next week for the Terrapin Cup, which begins on Thursday.
