Tigers Fall to #17 Stony Brook, 14-11

STONY BROOK, N.Y. - Junior attackman Jordan McBride scored a game-high six goals, including five in the first half, and added an assist as 17th-ranked Stony Brook University (2-1) jumped out to a 9-4 half-time lead and held on for a 14-11 victory over the Tigers (0-2) at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Seawolves' leading scorer, McBride has now scored 14 goals with 3 assists this year.

The Seawolves took a quick 2-0 lead in the opening five minutes of the first quarter as McBride scored back-to-back goals in a 50-second span. However, the Tigers responded as senior midfielder Will Harrington and sophomore attackman Stephen Norris scored to tie the score at 2-2 with 7:45 remaining in the stanza.

After junior midfielder Kevin Crowley regained a one-goal lead for Stony Brook, Norris tallied his second goal of the period off a feed from sophomore defender John Kenyon to even the score at 3-3 with 5:17 remaining in the quarter.

But, Stony Brook opened the second quarter by scoring six straight goals, including three from McBride, to take a commanding 9-3 lead with 2:16 left in the first half. Harrington ended the Towson drought with 16 seconds left, scoring off a pass from junior attackman Tim Stratton to narrow the margin to 9-4.  

After junior midfielder Timmy Trenkle scored to give the Seawolves a 10-4 lead, the Tigers narrowed the margin to 10-6 when senior midfielder Christian Pastirik and Harrington tallied back-to-back goals.

However, the Seawolves responded with a pair of goals from Crowley and senior midfielder Tom Compitello to regain a six-goal advantage with 9:28 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Led by two goals from Harrington, the Tigers answered by scoring four straight goals to cut the deficit to 12-10 with 4:57 left. But, the Seawolves secured the victory with goals from McBride and sophomore midfielder Robbie Campbell.

Norris scored the Tigers' final goal with 1:11 remaining for his third goal of the game.

While McBride led the Seawolves with six goals and an assist, Crowley contributed three goals and two assists. Compitello added a goal and an assist as the Seawolves outshot the Tigers by a 43-31 margin.

Harrington scored a career-high five goals to lead the Tigers in the loss while Pastirik added two goals with a career-high four assists.

The Tigers will travel to the University of Maryland next Saturday for an 11 a.m. game against the Terrapins. Meanwhile, Stony Brook travels to Delaware next Saturday.
