COLLEGE PARK, Md. - #11 Boston College scored four unanswered goals to defeat the Tigers, 5-1 on Sunday afternoon in College Park. Towson (4-4) got its goal in the game from Tabi Hatch.
"We had some breakdowns and miscommunications and it led to us not being able to take advantage of our opportunities today," said Coach Michelle Webber. "Hopefully we can work on correcting those problems before conference play begins."
Jacqui Moorefield opened the scoring with a goal in the ninth minute for the Eagles. Emily Kozniuk and Janna Anctil recorded the assists on Moorefield's goal which came on a corner.
Towson got the equalizer at 13:43 as Hatch found the back of the net. Katie DeFilippo earned the assist on Hatch's goal.
Nicole Schuster and Paige Norris would tally unassisted goals prior to the half to give Boston College a 3-1 advantage at the break. The Eagles outshot the Tigers 9-1 in the first half and held a 6-1 advantage in penalty corners.
Boston College would add to its lead in the second half as Anctil found the back of the net off a pass from Schuster and Kozniuk notched an unassisted goal.
Kristine Stigas played the first 58 minutes plus and was not forced to make a save for the win. Nicole Barry played the remainder of the game in goal and made one save. Whitney Clugston made five saves while taking the loss for the Tigers. Jamie Dowling also saw time in the cage for the Tigers and made one save.
Boston College finished with a 20-5 advantage in shots and a 12-3 edge in penalty corners. Towson made seven saves to the Eagles' one.
The Tigers return to action on Friday, September 24 when they host James Madison at 6 p.m. to begin Colonial Athletic Association play.
