TOWSON, Md. - A pair of second half goals by Kristie Blumer lifted the Tigers to a 4-2 win over La Salle on Wednesday night. Towson (2-2) won its second straight game on the season and its ninth straight over the Explorers (0-3).
"It was great to play at home for the first time in three years," said Coach Michelle Webber. "I'm thrilled to get the win and hopefully we can build on this going forward."
La Salle got on the board first as Gabrielle Nolt scored an unassisted goal at 10:24 of the first half.
The Tigers got the equalizer just over two minutes later as Kasie Nurko scored off a pass from Kathleen Morris. Nurko's goal was her third in the last three games.
The game remained tied at the half with Towson holding a 7-6 edge in shots. The Tigers also held a 6-4 advantage in penalty corners.
Blumer tallied the first of her two goals at 44:42 of the second half. Tabi Hatch drove a ball across to the far post and Blumer was able to bang it home.
Blumer gave the Tigers a 3-1 advantage with her goal at 57:46. She controlled a rebound and fired it past Explorers' net minder, Emma Ruth. Jamie Salvador gave the Tigers an insurance goal with her unassisted tally in the 63rd minute.
La Salle would get one final goal with three seconds remaining as it was awarded a penalty corner. Beth Carey scored off assists from Neelam Kumar and Rebecca Chylack.
Whitney Clugston recorded three saves to earn the win in net for the Tigers. Ruth made 10 saves while taking the loss for La Salle.
Towson held a 21-8 advantage in shots and a 14-6 edge in penalty corners in the game. La Salle finished with 11 saves to Towson's three.
The Tigers continue their home stand on Friday, September 10 when they host Radford at 6 p.m.
