DiPompo Leads Tigers to 2-1 Win Over James Madison

TOWSON, Md. - Sammi DiPompo's seventh inning single gave the Tigers a 2-1 walk-off victory over James Madison on Senior Day on Sunday afternoon. Towson (25-23, 9-7 CAA) won its sixth straight and clinched a spot in the upcoming CAA Championships with the win.

"This is huge since the win led to the sweep and it gets us back to the CAA Championships," said Coach Lisa Costello. "I thought Sammi came through for us like she has her whole career and Katie Lingmai pitched really well today."

The Tigers and Dukes were tied at 1-1 heading to the bottom of the seventh in the contest. Jillian Donnelly led off with a single and Stevie Patnode entered the game as a pinch runner. After Mickelle Oslin reached base on a bunt, Bina Abbott sacrificed the runners to second and third. With one out, James Madison intentionally walked Rachel Miller to load the bases. DiPompo then singled back up the middle to score Patnode and give the Tigers the win and the sweep.

Towson had taken an early lead with a run in the bottom of the first. Miller led off with a double and scored on Andrea Stevenson's two-out single.

James Madison had tied the score in the top of the fifth as Jasmine Butler led off the frame with a home run to right center.

Lingmai earned her second win of the weekend and 15th of the season with the complete game performance. She allowed just one run on three hits in the game. Lingmai added a walk and a strikeout. Olivia McPherson took the loss for James Madison as she gave up two runs on five hits in 6.1 innings of work. She struck out one and walked three.

DiPompo and Stevenson had a hit and an RBI apiece for the Tigers while Miller had a hit and a run scored. Butler led James Madison with a hit, a run scored and an RBI.

The Tigers conclude the regular season next weekend when they visit Delaware. Towson and the Blue Hens will play a doubleheader on Friday at  1:00 p.m.
