Tigers' Win Streak Snapped at N.C. State

RALEIGH, N.C. - Sophomore forward Amanda Novy scored the first goal of her college career, but N.C. State (8-2-0) answered with three straight goals as the Wolfpack ended the Tigers' three-match win streak with a 3-1 non-conference verdict over Towson (5-3-0) at Dail Soccer Field on Sunday afternoon.

It was the Wolfpack's fourth win in the last five matches.

Novy gave the Tigers a quick 1-0 lead in the fifth minute when she took a pass from freshman Kaitlin Brooks and scored past senior goalkeeper Kim Kern.

But, the Wolfpack responded less than six minutes later when senior midfielder Kristina Argiroff headed in her third goal of the season off a corner kick from freshman defender Shelli Spamer.

Just over two minutes later, senior defender Alex Berger gave N.C. State a 2-1 advantage when she scored on a penalty kick for her fifth goal of the season.

The Wolfpack held the one-goal advantage until the final minute when freshman Stephanie Bronson scored on a point-blank shot after a cross from Argiroff.

Senior goalkeeper Jocelyn Papciak matched her career high by making 13 saves for the Tigers, who were outshot by a 28-8 margin. The Wolfpack also had a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Kern made four saves for N.C. State, which was playing its final non-conference match of the season.

The Tigers, who also played in their final non-conference match, will continue their five-match road trip on Friday night when they visit William & Mary at 7 p.m.
