HARRISONBURG, Va. - Led by two goals from junior forward Paul Wyatt, James Madison (4-1-1, 1-0-0) spoiled the Tigers' Colonial Athletic Association opener with a 3-0 verdict over Towson (1-4-1, 0-1-0) at the JMU Soccer Complex on Saturday afternoon.
Wyatt and senior forward Patrick Innes each scored in the first half to give the Dukes a 2-0 advantage. After Innes scored in the 11th minute, Wyatt tallied his first goal of the year with 12:12 left in the first half for a two-goal lead at the intermission.
Wyatt added an insurance goal in the 70th minute to give James Madison a 3-0 lead.
Sophomore goalkeeper Angelo Viteritti made seven saves in a losing effort for the Tigers, who were outshot by a 23-6 margin.
Senior goalkeeper Justin Epperson made two saves to earn his third straight shutout for the Dukes, who improved to 4-0-0 at home this season.
The Tigers will be off until Saturday, Oct. 1 when they face CAA rival William & Mary at the Tiger Soccer Complex. Opening kick-off is set for 1:00 p.m.
