Late Goal Lifts JMU past Tigers, 1-0

HARRISONBURG, Va. - Redshirt freshman Christina Siwiec made six saves but it was not enough as the Towson University field hockey team fell at James Madison by a 1-0 score. The Tigers (5-4, 1-1 CAA) had a five-game win streak snapped with the loss to the Dukes (4-4, 1-1 CAA).

Both teams battled hard in the first 35 minutes of play but neither was able to find the back of the net. James Madison out-shot the Tigers 9-4 in the first half and held a 2-0 advantage in penalty corners. Siwiec made three first half saves for Towson.

The game remained scoreless until the 58th minute. James Madison's Amy Goldstein collected the rebound off a save and stroked it home for a 1-0 lead. It was Goldstein's first goal of the season.

Siwiec helped keep the Tigers in the game as she made a save on a penalty stroke by the Dukes in the final minute of play. However, the Tigers were unable to dent the scoreboard and suffered the tough 1-0 loss.

Margo Savage made two first-half saves to earn the win in goal for the Dukes. Siwiec's six saves marked the fifth time in the first nine games that she has made at least six saves in a game.

James Madison finished the game with a 23-6 advantage in shots and an 8-2 edge in penalty corners.

Towson wraps up its current road trip on Friday, Sept. 30 when it visits Drexel for a 7 p.m. game.
