HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – The Towson University men's soccer entered Wednesday night looking for its third Colonial Athletic Association victory of the season. However, the Hofstra Pride (9-3-1, 3-2 CAA) came away with a 1-0 home victory over the Tigers (4-6-1, 2-2-1 CAA).

"The effort of everyone tonight was outstanding," Towson head coach Frank Olszewski said. "Felix Petermann was on another level. They had chances and we had chances, so we'll move forward." 

Hofstra got the first and only goal of the contest early on, when Maid Memic scored his sixth goal of the season just 6:33 into the first half. He was assisted on the goal by Chris Griebsch, who leads the CAA with seven assists.

From there, the staunch Hofstra defense dug in and prevented the Tigers from attacking the net consistently. Towson was able to register just nine shots, led by sophomore midfielder C.J. Corey's four shots. Senior forward Matteo Vertucci chipped in with three shots for the Tigers.

Hofstra's offense came alive in the second half, when the team recorded 11 of its 16 shots. Griebsch, Memic and Mike Annarumma combined for 12 of the Pride's shots in the game.

For the fourth time in five games, the freshman goalkeeper Petermann had at least five saves in a game. Wednesday, he saved five shots against the Pride and he now has 44 saves for the season. He lowered his goals-against average to 1.49.

The Tigers will return home to the Tiger Soccer Complex Saturday for a matchup with Drexel beginning at 11 a.m.
