Hempstead, N.Y. - Junior Emily Banes scored a goal in her second straight game, but the Towson University women's soccer team (1-13-1, 1-6 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA)) fell, 3-1, to CAA-leading Hofstra (10-5, 6-1 CAA) Sunday afternoon at James M. Shuart Stadium.

"This was the first game in a while we've had everyone healthy," noted head coach Greg Paynter."I think we played well. We had some good chances at the start of the second half, but Hofstra is a good team with some very good players. They put pressure on us all throughout the game."

Hofstra controlled possession early and played solid defense, making it hard for the Tigers to move into their attacking third. The Pride took an early 1-0 lead off a Lulu Echeverry goal in the 13th minute. She was assisted by Brooke Bendernagel. Banes scored at 25:40 to knot the score at 1-1. She possessed the ball in the middle; her hard shot ricocheted off the underside of the crossbar and in. Towson's defense stood up for the rest of the half, defending set pieces and close shots to keep Hofstra from re-taking the lead. Sophomore goalie Erin Quinn made an excellent save with less than 15 seconds left, flicking a shot from Nikki Choffel over the crossbar.

An energized Towson came out of the break, generating two good opportunities for Banes and sophomore Kaitlin Brooks - both set up by senior Cheyenne Skidmore. But the Pride scored two quick goals in two minutes midway through the frame to take a 3-1 lead. Sam Scolarici and Echeverry combined in the 59th minute when Scolarici's shot sailed just over Quinn's hands to put Hofstra back in the lead, 2-1. Leah Galton scored her eighth of the season at 28:51 on a breakaway for the final margin. Skidmore tested the Pride's Emily Morphitis with 17 minutes left when she tried to score off a long goal kick from Quinn; Morphitis had to come off her line to make the stop.

Towson hosts its final homestand of the season next weekend, welcoming UNC-Wilmington (Friday, Oct. 19 at 3 p.m.) and Georgia State (Sunday, Oct. 21 at 1 p.m.) to the Tiger Soccer Complex.
