No. 6 Maryland Defeats Tigers, 9-0

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Sophomore Tashani Dickson tied her career-high with 15 saves as the Towson University field hockey team fell at No. 6 Maryland, 9-0 on Tuesday night.

Maryland (12-3) took 26 first half shots and scored eight goals. The Terps grabbed a 1-0 lead at 6:03 as Maxine Fluharty scored off a rebound in front of the cage. Maryland held a 2-0 lead before four goals in five minutes, increased that advantage to 6-0 at 18:39. Fluharty scored her second goal of the game while Anna Dessoye had a pair of assists during that stretch.

The Terps scored two more times before the half to take an 8-0 lead at the break. Fluharty completed her “hat trick” in the first half.

Dickson made 13 saves in the first half while senior Megan Penza added a defensive save. Senior Janine Kovach recorded a first half shot for the Tigers.

Maryland added one more goal in the second half to make the final margin, 9-0. Senior Kasie Nurko had a shot in the second half for the Tigers.

The Terps finished the game with a 33-2 advantage in shots while recording 10 of the 12 penalty corners in the game.

Three Terps saw time in goal during the course of the game. Natalie Hunter earned the win in goal as she was not forced to make a save in the first half. Dickson matched her career-high, set against Virginia, with 15 saves in the game.

Towson returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 21 when the Tigers return home to host Delaware at 12 p.m. Towson will honor its five seniors prior to the start of Sunday's home finale.
