No. 8 Old Dominion defeats @Towson_MSOC, 2-1

NORFOLK, Va. – No. 8 Old Dominion University scored a goal in each half and defeated the Towson University men's soccer team, 2-1, on Saturday evening. The Tigers (4-9-1, 2-5-1 CAA) got a goal from junior Cameron Kidwell in the loss.

The teams battled early in the contest as neither was able to find the back of the net until 23:20. At that point, ODU's Ryan Oakes passed the ball into the middle of field to Tim Hopkinson. Hopkinson then hit a shot into the left corner of the net to give the home team a 1-0 advantage. The score remained 1-0 as the teams headed to the half.

Old Dominion outshot the Tigers 7-3 in the first half and recorded four of the game's seven corner kicks.

The Monarchs added to their advantage at 55:52 as Chris Harmon scored off a pass from Ryan Condotta.

The Tigers got on the board at 80:28 as junior Olakunle Banjo found Kidwell with the pass. Kidwell's shot found the back of the net for his first goal of the year.

"It was a great team effort tonight and it was nice to see Cameron get rewarded for all of his work with a composed, clinical finish," Towson head coach Frank Olszewski said.

That was all the offense either team could manage as the Monarchs claimed the 2-1 victory.

Old Dominion outshot the Tigers 13-3 in the second half and finished the game with a 20-6 advantage in that category.

Victor Francoz made four saves to earn the win in goal for Old Dominion. Felix Petermann made five saves in the loss for the Tigers.

"Felix came up big tonight and was the spark to keep us in the game," Olszewski said of his young goalkeeper.

The Tigers return home on Wednesday, Oct. 24 to host Northeastern in their home finale at 3 p.m.
