Women's Swimming and Diving

Balanced Effort Paces @Towson_SWIMDIVE to Win

TOWSON, Md. - A plethora of standouts balanced the Towson women's swimming and diving team to a comfortable 211-82 victory over George Washington Saturday at Budick Pool in front of numerous alumni who attended the meet.

The Tigers earned nine victories in individual events, with only junior Kaitlin Burke winning more than one event. Burke took home first place in the 200-yard butterfly (recording a time of 2:06.91) and 50-yard freestyle (24.08 seconds) to lead the way for Towson, which improved to 6-0 (4-0 CAA) this season.

Freshmen Jenna Van Camp and Charlotte Holz were also impressive for the Tigers, as each won events. Van Camp took home first place in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:06.05, while Holz was victorious in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 52.71.

"Those two freshmen are doing for themselves and for the team what we need," Towson head coach Pat Mead said. "Those two girls are making the transition to college swimming and they can continue to be key players for us."

The 500-yard freestyle was also a big event for Towson, as the Tigers took the top three finishers, led by Kendall Towe who timed 5:00.07. Christine Hammond was second and Stephanie Romano third.

Natalee Szopo won the one-meter diving event with 215.00 points while finishing as the runner up in the three-meter event.

The Tigers will return to Burdick Pool for their next dual meet on Jan. 5, 2013 against Howard.
