BALTIMORE, Md. - Senior attacker Colleen McCaffrey scored three goals, including two in the first half, as Johns Hopkins University (4-2) snapped a two-game losing streak with a 5-4 victory over the No. 19 Tigers (3-1) at Homewood Field on Wednesday afternoon.
The loss snapped the Tigers' three-game win streak and marked the Blue Jays' second straight win over Towson.
Led by two goals from McCaffrey, the Blue Jays took a commanding 4-0 lead with 5:17 in the first half. All four of the Blue Jays' goals were scored on free position attempts.
With 3:32 remaining in the first half, sophomore attacker Andi Raymond scored a free position goal to trim the Tigers' deficit to 4-1.
The Tigers narrowed the margin to 4-3 in the opening eight minutes of the second half on goals from senior attacker Sarah Appelt and sophomore attacker Ashleigh Rohrback. But, the Blue Jays regained a two-goal advantage when McCaffrey scored her third goal of the game off an assist from sophomore midfielder Sammy Cermack with 15:01 left in regulation.
Junior midfielder Kelly Custer cut the Johns Hopkins advantage to 5-4 with 13:19 remaining with her fifth goal of the season, an unassisted marker past freshman goalkeeper KC Emerson.
But, Emerson and the Blue Jay defense kept the Tigers from getting the tying goal en route to the victory.
While McCaffrey led the Blue Jays with three goals, Emerson made six saves in the victory as Johns Hopkins limited the Tigers to 14 shots.
Raymond scored a goal with an assist to lead the Tigers in a losing effort while Teeters made nine saves.
