TOWSON, Md. - Towson University women's lacrosse assistant coach Rebecca Lane and student-athletes Ocea Leavy and Hannah Lewis are set to compete at the 2026 World Lacrosse Women's Championship this week in Tokyo, Japan.
Lane and Leavy will represent Australia after earning spots on the Australian Women's Field Lacrosse Team for the second consecutive World Championship. Lewis will compete for Puerto Rico, marking her second appearance on the national team.
Lane recently completed her third season as an assistant coach at Towson. Internationally, she helped Australia to a runner-up finish at the 2025 Asia-Pacific Women's Lacrosse Championship. This year, Lane will serve as an Australian team captain for the first time. She will also have the unique opportunity to both coach and play alongside Leavy, whom she coached during Leavy's collegiate career.
"To now have the opportunity to wear our country's jersey together at the World Cup is incredibly special", said Lane. "I absolutely loved coaching [Leavy]. She challenged everyone around her to improve, including me, and I learned a tremendous amount from watching the way she competed and carried herself every day. Going from coach and player to teammates on the world stage is a full-circle moment that I'll always be grateful for."
Leavy started in all 19 games for Towson this season, finishing with 22 ground balls and 18 draw controls. The Perth, Australia native was named to the All-CAA Second Team following the conclusion of the season. The senior played 68 games for the Black & Gold over the past four years.
"Representing Australia is always an honor", said Leavy. "To now share that experience with [Lane] as a teammate, after she coached me for three years is really special. I'm excited to learn from her in a new way and represent our country together."
Lewis, a redshirt junior transfer from James Madison, started on attack in all 19 games for the Tigers this season. The Bayville, New Jersey native led the team in goals (46) and points (56), scoring at least once in every game this past season. Lewis earned Co-Offensive Player of the Week honors from the league and was additionally named to the All-CAA First Team.
"Playing for Team Puerto Rico has been one of the most meaningful experiences of my athletic career," said Lewis. "It has allowed me to connect with my roots while competing at the highest level alongside an amazing group of women who all share the same pride in representing Puerto Rico. We carry so much pride every time we step onto the field. The passion, resilience and family within this team makes it truly special."
The 2026 World Games will be held in Tokyo, Japan from July 24-August 2 and will be streamed live exclusively on Lacrosse TV.
