Baltimore, Md. - The Towson University women's soccer team (0-3-1) played Loyola University Maryland (1-1-2) to a 1-1 tie in double overtime this evening at Ridley Athletic Complex. Senior Cheyenne Skidmore scored Towson's goal in the non-conference draw.

"[Loyola] pushed a lot at us tonight," said Head Coach Greg Paynter. "We defended it well. I'm pleased with the way we battled in the second half."

Tonight, the Tigers played their first two-overtime game since Sept. 16, 2011 - a 2-1 win at Campbell.

Towson generated offensive pressure early. Junior midfielder Amanda Novy's shot at 2:38 hit the center of the crossbar. Towson took a 1-0 lead at 20:26 when Skidmore received a pass from junior midfielder Kat Sipes, dribbled down the right side and lofted a shot over Didi Haracic for the goal. Skidmore nearly knocked in a second goal when she sent a poorly controlled save just over Loyola's crossbar a few minutes later. Towson took its one-goal lead into the break.

Towson continued to pressure Loyola throughout the second half, engineering quality scoring chances during the frame. Loyola didn't relent, however, and Nicole Schiro scored the equalizer in the 86th minute. She was assisted by Tessa McClenahan and Brittany Yancey.

Loyola's late goal sent the match into overtime. Towson juniors Emily Banes and Katie Holtzapple had scoring chances in the 98th minute. Banes hit the crossbar; Holtzapple controlled the rebound but her shot seconds later went wide left.

Skidmore started the second overtime on a break-away up the right side of the field. But Haracic stopped her shot for Loyola. Holtzapple's shot at 101:51 floated over the top of the goal.

Sophomore Erin Quinn made four saves for Towson, while Loyola's Haracic turned away seven shots. Overall, the Tigers outshot the Greyhounds 17-13 and held a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.

The Tigers are back in action on Sunday, Sept. 2 when they face the University of Maryland in College Park at 4 p.m.
