TOWSON, Md. – Freshman Larry Ndjock scored his fourth goal of the season and Connor Thompson added a penalty kick goal to lead the Loyola Greyhounds (3-1-1) over the Towson Tigers (2-3) Tuesday afternoon at the Tiger Soccer Complex in a battle of cross-town teams.

Despite being outshot 9-3 in the first half, the Tigers hung tough with Loyola thanks in large part to goalkeeper Felix Petermann. The freshman made a season-high tying four saves in the period while helping to keep the Greyhounds off the scoreboard.

However, Loyola would start the second half with a burst of offensive energy and capitalize on chances deep in the Towson end.

Ndjock would strike first, as he and Thompson connected on a pretty pass that drew Petermann out of the box. Ndjock blasted a shot into the left corner of the goal to put the Greyhounds in front 1-0 just 2:21 after the second half began.

After Ndjock was dragged down in the box nearly six minutes later, Thompson took the ensuing penalty kick and put the Greyhounds ahead, 2-0, with 36:58 remaining in the game.

“Conceding a penalty kick did not exactly come at the ideal time,” Towson Coach Frank Olszewski said. “Defensively, it was a matter of our spacing. We needed to condense the field and be more compact.”

The Tigers, who were outshot 13-10 in the game, did come alive in the second half, tallying seven shots while holding Loyola to just four in the period.

Goalie Thurman Van Riper made four saves in the win for the Greyhounds.

The Tigers will next travel to the University of Cincinnati to face the Bearcats Friday at 7:30 p.m.
