ALBANY, N.Y. – Juniors Christian Höfer and Olakunle Banjo each scored first half goals, but the Towson Tigers (1-2-0) dropped a tough 3-2 overtime verdict to the Albany Great Danes Saturday night in New York.

Brandon Wilson's header 4:35 into the overtime session proved to be the game-winning goal for the Great Danes, who improved to 1-1 this season. He took a cross from Pomare Te Anau and converted on the goal, putting the ball past Towson goalkeeper Felix Petermann and into the net.

After Te Anau gave Albany an early 1-0 lead in the sixth minute, the Tigers turned to a pair of stars to take a lead in the game. Olakunle Banjo, who was named a Preseason All-Colonial Athletic Association selection, scored his second goal of the season to tie the game at 1-1 13:30 into the game. Banjo now has three goals in his past two games against Albany after scoring twice in Towson's 4-1 victory over the Great Danes last season.

Then Höfer, the Tigers leading returning scorer from last season, scored his first goal of the season on a penalty kick to give the Tigers a 2-1 advantage that the team would take into halftime. Hofer is a co-captain for the team this season along with sophomore defender Daniel Grundei.

"That's a game we need to close out," Towson head coach Frank Olszewski said. "It was two teams in overtime battling it out and unfortunately, we didn't come out on top. We probably should've finished more offensive chances and that really opened the door for Albany." 

The Tigers would hold the lead until the 65th minute when Anthony Rozzano scored his first goal, knotting the game at 2-2 and giving Albany a jolt of momentum.

However, the Tigers would remain aggressive on offense and use a balanced attack to send the game into the extra session.

The Tigers outshot the Great Danes 16-9 in the game and had four players tally at least two shots, led by Banjo who had a season-high six. The 16 shots were the most in a game for the Tigers this season.

Goalie Tim Allen made nine saves for Albany, while Te Anau and Rozzano each had three points.

Towson will return home to face Howard University Wednesday, Sept. 5 beginning at 4 p.m. at the Tiger Soccer Complex.
