PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Towson University field hockey team rallied to tie the game at 3-3 with just over 10 minutes remaining but the University of Pennsylvania used a late goal to secure a 4-3 victory on Sunday night. Sophomore Courtney Branco led the Tigers (0-4) with a pair of goals in the game.

"I'm proud of how our team competed tonight," said Coach Michelle Webber. "Our goal is to show constant improvement. They applied the changes we made after our game on Friday so we are moving in the right direction."

In the first half, Julie Tahan gave the home team an early 1-0 lead with her goal at 6:56. Branco tied the game at 1-1 with the first of her two goals, this one coming at 15:54. The Quakers took a 2-1 lead into the half following a goal from Sarah Hasson at 20:57.

Penn out shot the Tigers 6-2 in the first 35 minutes of the game while the visitors made two saves to the Quakers' one.

The Tigers came out of the half trailing 2-1 and found themselves down 3-1, following a goal from Amelia Cohen at 51:12. Towson started its comeback in the 55th minute as freshman Heather Jenney scored her first career goal to make it a 3-2 game. The Tigers tied the game at 3-3 as Branco scored her second goal of the contest at 59:34.

Penn (2-0) would take back the lead at 62:02 as Tahan scored her second goal of the game.

The Tigers out shot the Quakers 10-9 in the second half and made six saves to the home team's five.

Carly Sokach made six saves to earn the win in goal for the Quakers. Sophomore Tashani Dickson made eight saves in the loss for the Tigers.

Penn finished the game with a slight 15-12 edge in shots while the home team took 13 of the game's 19 penalty corners.

Towson returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 9 when it travels to Lehigh for a noon game.
