TOWSON, Md. – Adrienne Phillips had a Senior Day to remember, winning a pair of events and leading
the Towson women's swimming and diving team past the Howard Bison Saturday. In
the Tigers' final meet at Burdick Pool of the season, Towson (7-0) was
victorious by a score of 215-53.
Phillips was victorious in the 200-yard breaststroke and
200-yard individual medley, while fellow senior Amanda Skroupa won the 100-yard butterfly (with a time of 58.03)
and 50-yard freestyle (24.15) to lead a strong showing by the Tigers in the
Tigers' first meet of the new year. Classmate Wendy Sharer also swam in four events.
“They swam well and it's great for them,” Towson head coach Pat Mead said of his seniors. “I told
the group before the meet that I thought they did a very good job of finishing
their senior year. This group has done a very good job of finishing well, and
it creates a culture that hopefully will resonate with some of the
underclassmen.”
Also swimming well were freshmen Charlotte Holz, Jenna Van Camp and Stephanie Romano.
Holz won the 100-yard backstroke and finished second in the
100-yard freestyle, while Van Camp won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:06.40.
However, Romano was particularly impressive and won the
500-yard freestyle and the 1,000-yard freestyle events. Her time of 10:21.85 in
the 1,000-yard freestyle led a group of Towson swimmers which finished in the
top three places.
