TOWSON, Md. - Taylor Hodge scored twice and Pippin Saunders added a goal and an assist leading the William & Mary Tribe (5-6, 2-1 CAA) past Towson University (1-11, 0-2 CAA) 5-1 on Sunday afternoon at Unitas Stadium.
For the second straight game, the Tigers scored the opening goal, as sophomore forward Kelsey Jones converted a shot from far out off a penalty corner, beating Tribe goalkeeper Cate Johnson 12:53 into the game. It was the second goal of the season for Jones.
However, the Tribe scored three goals over the final 15:57 of the first half, including markers from Hodge and Saunders, to take a 3-1 lead into halftime. Saunders scored her fifth goal of the year with just 19 seconds remaining in the period to give the Tribe the halftime advantage.
As the second half started, William & Mary kept the offensive pressure applied. Hodge netted her second goal of the game 44 seconds into the frame to up the lead to 4-1 and the Tribe defense then buckled down and kept the Tigers off the scoreboard for the remainder of the contest.
The Tribe held a 12-5 advantage in shots, as Johnson made one save to earn the win.
Towson goalkeeper Brittany Varacallo made five saves for Towson, including three in the second half. Jones led the Towson offense with three shots.
Towson continues Colonial Athletic Association play on Friday at Delaware beginning at 7 p.m.
