TOWSON, Md. - Dene' DiMartino's goal with 2:41 to play broke a 9-9 tie and lifted No. 12 Johns Hopkins to a 10-9 win over the Towson University women's lacrosse team on Tuesday night in Unitas Stadium. Three players, including redshirt junior attacker Ashleigh Rohrback, recorded two goals and an assist for the Tigers.

"I'm pleased with the effort tonight," said Towson coach Sonia LaMonica. "We came up just short tonight and need to finish some more of our shots but overall it was a good effort. We've played a lot of good teams and we're close to getting it going in the right direction."

The first half was a back-and-forth affair as the teams traded goals throughout. Senior midfielder Kelly Custer and sophomore attacker Paige Duncan sandwiched goals around a Blue Jays' tally to give the home team a 2-1 lead with 15 minutes to play in the first half. After a goal from Sarah Taylor tied the game at 2-2, graduate student attacker Jackie LaMonica put the Tigers back on top with 11:08 to play in the half. Taylor completed her hat trick at 9:31 to tie the game at 3-3. The two squads remained tied at the half.

Towson (1-6) outshot the Blue Jays (6-2) 10-8 in the first half and won five of the seven draw controls.

Johns Hopkins scored two of the first three goals in the second half to take a 5-4 lead with 24:44 to play. Just 42 seconds later, the Tigers tallied the equalizer as senior attacker Olivia Turner scored off a pass from Custer. Back-to-back free position goals by Taylor D'Amore and Taylor gave the visitors a 7-5 lead with 16:23 to play. That was the Blue Jays' largest lead of the game.

Junior midfielder Rhiannon Coogle's goal at 15:07 pulled the Tigers to within one, 7-6. Rohrback, who made her season debut in the game, tied the game at 7-7 with a goal at 14:23. DiMartino put Johns Hopkins on top 8-7 with 8:05 to play on her first goal of the game.

Rohrback again had the tying goal for the Tigers with an unassisted tally at 7:08.

"Ashleigh got cleared by the doctors this afternoon, so for her to come out and perform like she did for us was huge," said LaMonica.

The Tigers found themselves trailing 9-8 after a Blue Jays' goal at 5:13. LaMonica scored off a free position shot at 3:20 to tie the game at 9-9.

DiMartino scored the game winner at 2:41 and the Blue Jays were able to control the draw and hold onto the ball for the win.

Cosette Larash made 10 saves to earn the win in goal for the Blue Jays. Sophomore Kelsea Donnelly made three saves in the loss for the Tigers.

Johns Hopkins finished the game with a 23-20 advantage in shots. The Blue Jays controlled eight of the 14 draw controls in the second half but the Tigers finished the game with an 11-10 edge in that category.

Custer, Rohrback and LaMonica all had two goals and an assist for the Tigers.

Taylor led the Blue Jays with four goals while D'Amore had two goals and two assists.

Towson returns to action on Tuesday, March 26 when the Tigers host Maryland at 7 p.m.
