Lingmai's Gem, Abbott's HR Power @Towson_SB Past UNCG

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Facing a tough test on the road, the Towson softball team ended its spring break road-trip with an impressive win over UNC Greensboro on Wednesday evening, defeating the Spartans 1-0.

UNC Greensboro (21-5) had won 11 of its previous 13 games prior to Wednesday and entered the game with five hitters batting over .339 for the season.

However, Tiger senior pitcher Katie Lingmai was up to the task of shutting down the opposition's offense, continuing her historic career as a result.

Lingmai (6-7) limited the Spartans to just three hits, pitching a complete game shutout and moving up the Towson all-time leaderboard. The complete game was the 64th of Lingmai's career, tying her for second on the school's all-time list with Kathleen O'Hara. She is just four shy of Shannon Johnston's school record of 68.

With her sixth win of the season, Lingmai also moved into a tie for second-place in career wins for Towson. Her 48 are knotted with Jessica Wides and O'Hara. Lingmai's 18 career shutouts are the most in Tiger history.

Towson (15-14-1) faced a tough task in the batter's box, as they faced Spartan ace Raeanne HanksUNC Greensboro's pitcher was 12-1 entering the game, and allowed just one Tiger hit in her outing. 

However, Tiger senior Bina Abbott made the hit count, connecting on a solo home run in the second inning to give the Tigers an early 1-0 lead. Her team-leading fourth homer of the season accounted for the the only scoring of the game.

Towson will open play in the Colonial Athletic Association with a home series against James Madison on Saturday and Sunday. A doubleheader on Saturday will begin at 12 p.m.
